Quarantine Day 3
Today was the Big Storm day and we went exploring the Reykjavik/Keflavik peninsula. We had bought a large Thermos flask with us and filled that with coffee. We had ordered Bread and Sandwich fillings from Netto and so could go out and be self-sufficient. The weather was so bad and the outlook for photography was poor. Still, we figured it was better than sitting in the apartment all day. A few hours later we werenât so sure about that.
Our drive took us out past the airport to Gardur Lighthouse. In fact there are two lighthouses, the old and the new.Â
Our next stop was at the Bridge Between Two Continents. There is a small canyon where the North American and Eurasian Tectonic Plates meet.
There is a footbridge to walk over to move from one plate to the other.Â
Leaving this behind us we headed inland to the Blue Lagoon. This is Icelandâs most famous attraction but of course we couldnât go in anyway. They have changed opening hours during the Covid crisis and donât open until 3pm each day. There are some small blue lagoons nearby which are worth a look though.
Then we headed back to the ring road around the peninsula stopping at Reykjanes for another lighthouse and some small sea stacks. The weather was atrocious and the wind so strong it was hard to stand.Â
